It is not just you. It was a result of the latest update to the editor which seemed to create more problems than it solved for some reason.
You can use "Paste from Word" instead or click the "Input format" below the text editor and choose "Rich Editor Basic Alt" for an alternative text editor. The paste button works there.

hello julia here mcp questions don’t need to edit my queries very often, so this wasn’t a pressing matter (the newsgroup poster might disagree). So I put the problem on the back burner, knowing that I was missing something really stupid and that it would come to me. Nothing came.
